Stephanie holds a Bachelor's of Science in Accounting from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Kenny Riddell is a partner at Smith, Lewis, Chess & Company, LLP. Kenny has worked extensively in all areas of the firm but specializes in the audit section, working with construction contractors, employee benefit plans, business taxation, and consulting.
Kenny obtained a Bachelor's of Science in Accounting while studying at Waynesburg College and obtained a Master's of Professional Accountancy from West Virginia University. He obtained his CPA license in 1988 and has more than 30 years of public accounting experience. Kenny is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Matthew S. McCreary is a manager with Smith, Lewis, Chess & Company, LLP having joined the firmed in 2002 after graduating from John Carroll University. Matt is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in Pennsylvania and Certified Valuation Analyst with the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts (NACVA). Additionally, he is a member of the AICPA and PICPA.
Matt provides a wide variety of services to individuals, small, and mid-sized businesses on many issues ranging from income tax planning and compliance, business structure, formation and succession planning, business valuations, buying and selling a business, and management advisory and consulting.

Donna Palya is a bookkeeper, payroll specialist, and QuickBooks Pro Advisor at the Uniontown office. She has been with the firm since it was founded in 1988. Donna provides expert services to our clients including account reconciliations, quarterly and year end payroll reports, software assistance, as well as other bookkeeping services. Donna also donates her time to serve as Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Allegheny Central Employees Federal Credit Union.

Joseph Siebart has been a partner at Smith, Lewis, Chess & Company, LLP since 1990. He is in charge of the firm's employee benefits division and co-chairs the business valuation section. Joe graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1979 and has been working in public accounting since 1983.
Joe has obtained the Certified Public Accountant and Certified Valuation Analyst designations. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts. In his spare time, Joe is an avid golfer and fly fisherman.
Effective January 1, 2023, Joe has retired from the firm. He intends to help with the transition and will be available on a limited basis. We wish him well in his new journey.

Bill Smith graduated from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Business Management. He started his public accounting career with Price Waterhouse before taking time away from accounting to serve in the United States Army. After returning from his service, Bill joined McClure & Wolf in 1972. In November of 1988, he helped found Smith, Lewis, Chess & Company, LLP and served as the managing partner of the Uniontown office until 2014.
Bill is a member of the AICPA and PICPA and has served on the PICPA's Federal Tax Committee as well as its Pennsylvania State Tax Committee.
Daniel L. Chess

Dan was a Penn State graduate and founding member of the firm. While practicing he was the Human Resource Director of the Uniontown office and firm's partner in charge of diversity and employee wellness. His main area of practice was tax with a concentration on small business issues. Dan passed away March 31, 2018 after a lengthy and gallant battle with ALS. He is missed.
Annabelle Smith
Annabelle is the tiny firm mascot with a big heart for Smith, Lewis, Chess & Company, LLP. She is a miniature schnauzer and was born in August of 2015. If you stop by the Uniontown office, she is the greeter of guests. She can schmooze the cookie out of your hand in the blink of an eye. She is the undisputed Queen of the Office and she knows it.
Her day starts with a run around the office gathering treats and demanding attention. She knows how to work each and every staff member for her treats and scratches. Annabelle attends all staff meetings and casts tie-breaking votes when necessary.

Kelly S. Berfield is a partner at Smith, Lewis, Chess & Company, LLP. She has been with the firm since 2001. Kelly conducts accounting and tax services for clients from a broad array of industries including manufacturing, real estate, medical, construction, and not-for-profit organizations.
Kelly is a 1993 graduate of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania earning a degree in Accounting. Kelly spent the first part of her career in public accounting gaining a broad background of experience with the firms Louis Plung & Company in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Deluzio & Company in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. In 1999, she was licensed as a CPA.
Kelly is a member of the Pennsylvania and American Institutes of Certified Public Accountants. In addition, she currently serves as the Treasurer of the Alice Paul House and as a member of the Board of Directors for the Indiana County United Way. She is also actively involved in the Business and Professional Women's Club.

Brenda is a member of the AICPA and the PICPA. Her client experience includes not-for-profit organizations, manufacturing, service, and employee benefit plans.
Brenda has been a member of the Indiana chapter of Quota International for 7+ years and has served as President and Treasurer-Elect. She was recently recognized by the PICPA as being one of 40 CPAs under the age of 40 in the state of Pennsylvania to watch.

Ryan is a new member of Smith, Lewis, Chess & Company, LLP, joining the staff in 2018 as an accountant in the Indiana office. He graduated from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Accounting, while actively participating on the University’s football team. Prior to joining Smith, Lewis, Chess & Company, LLP, he gained experience with a similar size CPA firm in Altoona, PA. Ryan looks forward to completing his CPA in the near future and building relationships in his home town of Indiana, PA.

Lisa is a resident of Indiana and is involved in several Veteran Service Organizations along with keeping up with her young son.
Walter L. Lewis

Walt graduated from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1970 with a Bachelor's of Science in Business Management. In 1972, Walt was licensed as a CPA. Walt spent six years as the Director of the Accounting Office at IUP prior to opening the Indiana branch of McClure & Wolf. In 1988, Walt helped co-found Smith, Lewis, Chess & Company, LLP and served as the managing general partner of the Indiana office until 2015.
Walt has always found it important to be involved in the Indiana community. For his efforts over the years, he was recognized as the Indiana County Civic Leader in 2011. Additionally, he was inducted into the Eberly College of Business and Information Technology Business Hall of Distinction in 2010 and currently serves on the Advisory Board at the Eberly College of Business. When not working or giving back to the community, Walt and his wife Suzanne enjoy spending time in Houston with their three children and eight grandchildren.
